About me:
My name is Rachel and my husband is Henry. As this blog launches, we have a little “bun in the basket” not yet named. We live in Michigan, but neither of us are from here originally. We are followers of Christ! If you want to know more about His truth and what that means to us and in our lives, please email me anytime. I enjoy people, my kitchen, gardening, books and reading, nature and animals, urban homesteading, learning about other cultures, words and writing. I love gathering information and researching topics and products and sharing what I have learned. I am at a time of transition in my life and am looking forward to using this blog as an outlet for old and new pursuits.
About the title:
I struggled intensely with naming my blog! The amount of time I spent thinking about it was ridiculous. I have a niece that I often call ”girly-pearly,” and one day that led me to thinking about the word pearl. I looked up the definition and here is what Merriam-Webster says, “…a dense variously colored and usually lustrous concretion formed of concentric layers of nacre as an abnormal growth within the shell of some mollusks and used as a gem.” I couldn’t help but think of the journey of life, in particular the Christian walk, and how it can so often seem like a long process to “arrive” at where we want and need to be! It was a beautiful thought to me that every experience and learning moment in my life builds layers of lustre that result in a mature gem. As hard as it is to grasp sometimes, God our Maker, in His great love and grace sees us as gems and desires us to grow. He is refining and perfecting us for His glory. In fact, He provides everything we need to do so and is constantly at work, preparing us for all that we are intended. It is easy to get consumed with regrets over mistakes or lost time or failures, but to reflect instead on the process of a pearl and liken ourselves to it, brings me great encouragement.
About the blog:
Expect to find posts related to my interests, spirituality, current events, products and writing challenges. I am an avid contest participant myself, so those will be incorporated here. My sister will guest post once in awhile, and you want to stay tuned for that! Whatever develops, I hope you find a nugget to brighten your day, encourage your way or prove useful in your living. Thanks for reading!
Rachel… I don’t know if you remember me… I was more a friend of your sister’s when my family and I attended Christ Church. I saw your blog listed in the newsletter, which we still receive to keep in the loop of the church. I just want to tell you how happy I am to hear you are expecting a baby! I use to see you with your nieces and nephews and would think, “she is going to be such a wonderful mother some day” even before Henry was in the picture.
A very hearty congratulations to you and Henry! May God continue to bless you during this special time.
Ray, You are a great writer and I love reading your words. Especially the mrs. dash entry. You are the cutest. Excited for you and the new addition. Lori
